Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Renzue Media("we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on the Renzue website at https://www.renzue.com (the "Site"). Renzue is a news and discussion platform where we publish editorial articles and where visitors can read, comment, post, and take part in community discussions.

Cookies and similar technologies help us operate the Site, keep your account and session secure, remember your preferences, understand how the Site is used, and, where applicable, deliver and measure advertising. Because Renzue serves a global audience, this policy describes our practices across the privacy regimes that apply to us, including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the "DPDP Act"), the European Union's ePrivacy Directive and General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), the United Kingdom's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations ("PECR") together with the UK GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act ("CCPA/CPRA").

This Cookie Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains in more detail what personal information we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. If there is any conflict between this Cookie Policy and the Privacy Policy about how cookies are described, this Cookie Policy controls for cookie-specific matters.

By using the Site, you consent to our use of strictly necessary cookies as described in this policy. For all other categories of cookies, we will ask for your consent before they are placed, as described in Section 5. You can change or withdraw your choices at any time.

1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies

1.1 Cookies

A "cookie" is a small text file that a website stores on your device (your computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit it. When you return to the Site later, your browser sends the cookie back to the Site so that we, or a third party whose content we display, can recognise your device, remember information about your previous visit, or record your activity.

Cookies do not themselves contain programmes or viruses. They are passive data files. Some cookies are placed directly by us (see "First-Party Cookies" below); others are placed by outside companies whose services we use, such as analytics or advertising providers (see "Third-Party Cookies" below).

1.2 Similar technologies

Cookies are the most common tracking technology, but they are not the only one. On the Site we may also use the following, and this Cookie Policy applies to all of them:

  • Local storage and session storage: Web browsers include storage areas (such as HTML5 local storage) where a site can save larger amounts of data on your device than a cookie can hold. Unlike cookies, this data is not automatically sent back to the server with every request; it is read by scripts running in your browser. We use local storage for purposes similar to cookies, such as remembering your theme choice or keeping an unsent comment draft.
  • Pixels, beacons, and tags:A "pixel" (also called a web beacon or tracking tag) is a tiny, usually invisible image or snippet of code embedded in a page or an email. When your browser loads it, the operator of the pixel learns that you opened the page or email, along with information such as your IP address, the time of the visit, and the page you viewed. We use pixels and tags to measure how articles and emails perform and to help our advertising partners measure ad effectiveness.
  • Software development kits ("SDKs"): If you use a Renzue mobile application, now or in the future, it may include SDKs, which are code libraries provided by third parties (for example, analytics or crash-reporting services) that perform functions similar to cookies inside the app. This policy covers SDK use in any official Renzue app on the same terms.

1.3 First-party and third-party cookies

First-party cookies are set by the domain you are visiting, that is, renzue.com. We use first-party cookies for core functions such as keeping you signed in, remembering your cookie preferences, and collecting aggregated usage statistics.

Third-party cookies are set by a domain other than the one you are visiting. On Renzue, third-party cookies may be set by companies whose services we embed or use, including our analytics provider (Google Analytics) and, where we run advertising, our advertising partners (Google AdSense). These companies may use the information collected by their cookies for their own purposes in addition to ours, subject to their own privacy policies. See Section 8 for details.

1.4 Session and persistent cookies

Session cookies exist only while your browser is open. They are deleted when you close the browser. We use session cookies for things like holding your sign-in state while you move between pages.

Persistent cookies remain on your device after you close your browser, for a fixed period or until you delete them. We use persistent cookies to remember choices such as your language or theme, and to record your cookie consent preferences so that we do not ask you again on every visit. The duration of each cookie is shown in the cookie table in Section 4.

2. Why We Use Cookies

We use cookies for the following purposes:

  1. To make the Site work. Some cookies are essential for the Site to function at all. Without them, you could not sign in, stay signed in while you browse, submit comments, or complete actions that require security checks. These cookies are always active and cannot be switched off through our consent tool, because the Site would not work without them.
  2. To keep the Site secure and reliable. Cookies help us detect abuse, prevent fraud, verify that requests come from genuine users, balance traffic across our servers, and remember the consent choices you have made so that we respect them on future visits.
  3. To remember your preferences. When you choose a display language, switch between light and dark themes, or begin writing a comment, cookies and local storage let the Site remember those choices so you do not have to make them again on every page.
  4. To understand how the Site is used. We collect aggregated, statistical information about how visitors interact with Renzue, such as which articles are read most, how long readers spend on a page, and where technical errors occur. This helps us improve our content, fix problems, and plan new features. These analytics cookies are only set with your consent (see Section 5).
  5. To deliver and measure advertising. Where we display advertising, cookies help us show ads, limit how often you see the same ad ("frequency capping"), and measure whether an ad was viewed or clicked. Under California law, sharing cookie-derived identifiers with advertising partners for cross-context behavioural advertising can count as "sharing" your personal information, and you have the right to opt out, as explained in Sections 5 and 7.
  6. To support the community features. Renzue's discussion features, such as comment threads and community posts, rely on cookies to keep your session active, attribute your contributions to your account, and remember interface settings like collapsed threads or sort order.

We do not use cookies to collect sensitive personal information (such as health, financial, or precise location data) for advertising purposes, and we do not knowingly use cookies to target advertising at children (see Section 9).

3. The Types of Cookies We Use

3.1 Strictly necessary cookies (always on, no consent required)

These cookies are essential for the Site to operate and cannot be disabled in our consent tool. Examples include session and authentication cookies, security and CSRF tokens, load-balancing cookies, and consent-preference cookies.

Legal basis: Required to provide the service explicitly requested under the ePrivacy Directive, PECR, and "legitimate uses" under Section 7 of India's DPDP Act.

3.2 Functional or preference cookies (consent required)

These cookies remember choices you make and provide enhanced, more personal features such as language preferences, theme choice, and unsent drafts.

3.3 Analytics and performance cookies (consent required)

These cookies collect information about how visitors use the Site (articles viewed, read duration, page errors) to measure and improve performance. Our analytics provider is Google Analytics.

3.4 Advertising and targeting cookies (consent required)

Where advertising is shown, cookies are used for ad delivery, frequency capping, and campaign measurement. In California, you have the right to opt out of the "sharing" of personal information via our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.

5. Managing Your Consent

When you first visit Renzue, we present you with our consent options. You can accept all, reject all non-essential cookies, or customise your categories.

You can change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time by revisiting this page or contacting us at privacy@renzue.com.

6. Managing Cookies in Your Browser

Every major browser allows you to manage or delete stored cookies. Review your browser's privacy settings (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) to block third-party cookies or wipe cache files. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will break authentication and commenting features on Renzue.

7. Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We honour the Global Privacy Control ("GPC") signal sent by your browser. If detected, we automatically treat it as a valid opt-out request under the CCPA/CPRA, suppressing cross-context behavioural advertising cookies for that browser without requiring any additional forms.

8. Third-Party Cookies and Privacy Links

9. A Note About Children

Renzue is a general-audience platform and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly set cookies to track or target advertising to users under the age of 18.
