2. What AdChoices Is
2.1. "AdChoices" is the consumer-facing name of self-regulatory programs for interest-based advertising operated by industry bodies including the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA in the US), EDAA (in the EU/UK), and DAAC (in Canada).
2.2. When you see a small blue triangle icon on or near an advertisement, clicking it typically opens information about why that advertisement was selected and links to opt-out tools.
AdChoices Icon License Status: The official AdChoices Icon is a licensed trademark. We are not currently DAA-licensed to display the official AdChoices icon on our site directly. However, advertisements served by our Advertising Partners (such as Google AdSense) may display the icon under their respective licenses.
3. Contextual vs. Interest-Based Advertising
Contextual Advertising
Advertisements are selected based solely on the content of the page you are viewing right now (e.g., tech hardware ads on an AI model benchmark article). No browsing history or profile is needed.
Interest-Based Advertising
Advertisements are selected based on information collected over time across participating websites to infer your likely interests.
4. Data Used for Advertising
Our advertising partners may use cookie identifiers, coarse approximate location (city level derived from IP), and device information for frequency capping and ad measurement.
What we do NOT use for advertising:
- Your real name, email address, or account credentials.
- The private contents of your comments or discussion drafts.
- Precise GPS-level geolocation.
- Sensitive categories such as health conditions, political opinions, or religious beliefs.
5. Your Choices & Opt-Out Tools
1. Global Privacy Control (GPC)
Enable GPC in your browser. Renzue automatically treats GPC as a valid opt-out request and suppresses third-party advertising cookies.
2. Industry Opt-Out Portals
- United States: DAA WebChoices (optout.aboutads.info) and NAI (optout.networkadvertising.org).
- Europe & UK: EDAA YourOnlineChoices (youronlinechoices.eu).
- Canada: DAAC YourAdChoices (youradchoices.ca).
3. Google Advertising Controls
Visit Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com) to turn off ad personalization across Google's network.
4. Mobile Device Controls
iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking (turn off "Allow Apps to Request to Track").
Android:Settings > Privacy > Ads (select "Delete advertising ID" or toggle off personalized ads).

6. What Opting Out Does and Does NOT Do
What opting out DOES: Stops participating companies from using your cross-site browsing history to personalize advertisements shown to you.
What opting out does NOT do: Ads will not disappear. You will still see contextual or generic advertisements on Renzue, which keep our technical journalism accessible for free.
